Beautiful luminous work by the painter from Avignon Joseph Hurard who represents the road to Avignon between Villeneuve lès Avignon and Les Angles. At the top of Bellevue, you can see a horse-drawn carriage going down the white road towards Villeneuve and on the right the café de Bellevue animated by characters.
The artist used a brightly colored palette and played on contrasts.

A pupil of Pierre Grivolas and Charles Vionnet in Avignon, Joseph Hurard exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1908 to 1914 many landscapes, notably of Avignon and Villeneuve-les-Avignon. He joined the Group of Thirteen founded by Clément Brun.
After the First World War, he exhibited in galleries in Marseille.
In 1932, he settled in Martigues. site he has been painting since 1913.

Dimensions: 50 x 92 cm without its frame and 62 x 104 cm with its original black and gilt wooden frame.
