Beautiful work by the Avignon painter Claude Firmin-Goy which represents a lively landscape in Provence, most certainly in the countryside near Avignon.
We are in winter, as suggested by the palette of colors used by the painter, where the silhouettes on the path seem to be barely sketched.

Claude Firmin is described by critics as one of the best Avignon landscapers "with canvases of superior execution that ignore the violence of contrasts and are wrapped in a seductive harmony of color"; But also, as a painter with exceptional talent, "mainly by his quality of vision: qualities that require a natural feeling of light, perfected by a league of experience."

A student of Pierre Grivolas, Léon Bonnat and Paul Saïn, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français from 1889 to 1922 and at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants from 1906 to 1910, where he received numerous awards during his participation.
At the same time, he attended exhibitions in Avignon from 1882 to 1944, including that of the Groupe des Treize, to which he belonged.
In 1922, he became a professor and then director from 1937 to 1941 of the École des Beaux-Arts de la Ville d'Avignon.
He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1937.
