"The Flat Stones and the Sainte-Marie Lighthouse in Marseille"
Oil on panel,
Signed lower right,
Beautiful work by the Marseille painter Louis Nattero which represents a rare view of the Flat Pierres and the Sainte-Marie lighthouse Marie in Marseille animated by characters.
The work perfectly transcribes the atmosphere of a sunny day on the shores of the Mediterranean.
After an unhappy childhood, placed in an orphanage, Louis Nattero turned to painting.
In 1891, he married in Toulon. At the age of 26, thanks to a grant from the city of Toulon, he became a pupil of Léon Bonnat in Paris. However, suffering from lead poisoning, he was forced to cut short his studies in Paris. He then returned to Toulon before settling definitively in Marseille, his birthplace, in 1904.
His talent was quickly recognized and his paintings were a great success with Marseille and Toulon customers.
From 1902 he participated in exhibitions in Toulon and Marseille where his talent was rewarded with numerous prizes.
