BRAYER Yves (1907-1990)
"View of the Alpilles from the castle of Baux de Provence"
Watercolor,
Signed lower right,
Beautiful finely crafted work by the artist Yves Brayer which represents a view of the Alpilles from the castle of Baux de Provence Provence. The artist animated his watercolor with a few characters strolling on the esplanade of the castle and played on the contrasts to give depth to his work.
Impressed by his talent, his mother enrolled him at the School of Arts in Bourges. Arrived in Paris in 1924, he attended the academies of Montparnasse and the Grande Chaumière then the School of Fine Arts in Paris where he obtained his diploma. It was encouraged and initiated by great artists such as Jean-Louis Forain and the sculptor Robert Wlérick. He began to exhibit his works very early when he was only a student, at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. He traveled to Spain in 1927, thanks to a state travel grant and this allowed him to meet museum masters in Madrid who would influence his future works. His travels do not end there, he continues in other countries such as Morocco, Mexico and Italy, and at the end returned to France to continue the journey and share his works with the public.
A fan of watercolors and painting, he produces landscapes from his many travels and his Provence.
You can admire works by the artist at the Yves Brayer Museum in Les Baux de Provence.
Dimensions: 49 x 65 cm at sight without frame and 77 x 92 cm with its original frame in gilded wood.
